Oct. 3, 2012 – Over the course of a lifetime, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, making it one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women. In support of Women’s Health Month and to contribute to the fight against this disease, Sam’s Club is offering free women’s health and vision screenings Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy, open to members and non-members alike.
Sam’s Club locations nationwide are giving away more than 25,000 breast self-exam kits during the free health screenings.* The kits include educational literature about breast self-exams and an easy-to-use take-home gel-filled pad to help women better detect changes in breast tissue, such as a lump, that might require a follow-up exam by a physician.
Along with the free take-home kits for women, the screening program includes free in-Club tests* for women valued at up to $150, to include:
“Many health issues affecting women often do not show symptoms and can be identified only with testing,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “For the second year in a row, Sam’s Club is committed to offering free screenings and kits that lift awareness of important women’s health concerns like breast cancer to better serve the communities in which we live and work.”
